On 20th October we were part of InnoTech Austin 2011. Juan De Abreu, VP – Delivery Director of Common Sense, attended in this great event for the IT community.

InnoTech is the region’s largest business technology event comprised of educational seminars, Special Events, hands-on demonstrations and, of course, limitless networking opportunities. In one focused day, Austin InnoTech creates an environment where education, innovation, peer-to-peer networking and the latest technology and business solutions are all available specifically for IT professionals.

Here are some of the highlights of the event by Juan:

The event was a huge success, it was a great chance to see the latest products and solution for IT business. But also, I have the opportunity to meet and share opinions with leaders of the IT industry.

Bernard Golden’s conference was very interesting. He is a “cloud guru”, so he explained the new ways ant trends at the cloud computing. This presentation focused on real-world adoption patterns applied by companies leveraging cloud computing. Also, he presented a case of study about cloud solutions.

Then, I was part of the conference “Using Lean IT Practices to Transform the Workplace” in which Scott Bellware explained how Lean techniques applies to the delivery of IT services. Scott is the founder of Lean Software Austin Group. It was very interesting talking with him about his approach on how to minimize waste in IT development.

Lean methodology has not yet been formally implemented, but some companies, such as Toyota, have implemented it with very positive results.

At the end, I was part of the “14th Annual IT Executive of the Year Awards” ceremony. Here are the winners:

– IT Executive of the Year – Corporate: Steve Finnerty, Vice-President, Technology & Vendor Services Applied Materials
– IT Executive of the Year – Public: Vijay George, CIO LCRA
– Information Technologist/CTO: Ross Buhrdorf, Chief Technology Officer, HomeAway
– Technology Community Leader of the Year: Steve Guengerich, Executive Producer, Appconomy
– IT Solutions of the Year: McCoy’s Building Supply

This was a huge event and I’m really proud to have been part of it. I meet many very interesting and talented people in the IT business.
