Recently Adobe announced that it was stopping development of Flash for mobile devices. This decision was not a surprise since the Flash format has been losing support among companies such as Apple and Microsoft. In its place, the popularity of HTML5 has been growing, which now has universal support on all major mobile devices. And while the HTML5 standards has some time to go before it is finalized, companies like Google and Microsoft are already incorporating HTML5 technologies into their products.
For its part, Adobe will now shift its development to building Flash like tools for creating HTML5 content such as its new product, Adobe Edge, that lets developers create animated content for both desktops and mobile devices using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
As a result of this decision, we can expect the use of Flash to fade as the growth in the use of mobile devices continues to accelerate.
